For this blog assignment, I visited the Early Childhood Development Virtual
University (ECDVU) Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) website. This website gave general information
regarding early childhood programs in Sub-Sahara Africa. The goal is to create strong leadership in the
Early Childhood Education (ECE) field by aiding those in the field with
support.
I found that a vast
amount of research has been conducted.
On the ECDVUSSA website, there is a link to publications. I found that research topics from several
African countries are listed. I saw
topics ranging from the role of fathers in ECE in Nigeria, to the importance
and ways of strengthening the role of grandparents as parents in Uganda.
Hi Kristi
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to hear that they are studying the role that the father can play within the family unit. Traditionally the mothers are responsible for child rearing. Hopefully, this information is built into the education that they are presenting to families on child rearing practices. It is also understandable that they are focused on education and perfecting current practices, as compared to conducting novel research. Empowering the children in these countries should be the focus of the early childhood education system.

Hi Kristi. Grandparent research sounds interesting. Now I did not read the research so I'm kinda making this up. I wonder if grandparents are raising the children for whatever reason. I know here in Richmond there is a pattern of grandparents raising the kids because the moms are young.
ReplyDeleteI picked my title because of Australia. ;)
It is nice to see that early childhood is alive around the world. It was also nice to see that we do have things in common. I love that early childhood people everywhere are looking at serving children and their families. :)
