Establishing Contact
For our blog assignment, I have attempted
establishing contact with several of the NAEYC international listings, as well
as a few from the UNICEF list. E-mails that I sent to China (Hong Kong)
and Ghana have been returned. I have e-mailed someone from Kazakhstan, Singapore, and through UNICEF, Nicaragua and China. I am
anxiously awaiting a response. I will give this until mid-week, and then
explore the alternative assignment.
For part two of the blog assignment, I
visited the Global Fund for Children website, and signed up for the newsletter.
I was impressed with the grassroots efforts of the organization.

Hi Kristi!
ReplyDeleteI also chose The Global Fund for Children organization to learn about various global issues and trends that are present. I especially found the Books for Kids program within the organization very inspiring. The program donates books to under privileged children, and they also provide a range cultural diverse books in advocating for a global society in which also supports the Global Fund for Children’s vision.
Kristi,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading literature on the Global Fund for Children's website also even though I did not choose it for my assignment. Are you worried about the language barrier when contacting China? At Tammy, in my area, there is a company that donates books to underprivileged children. The books are thick cardboard books with vibrant colors, my kids love them. The books are sturdy, small and easy to manueuver.
Hello,Yolanda!
DeleteI am not really worried about a Chinese language barrier, not any more than Nicaragua (I do not communicate in Spanish,if they choose to communicate in their native language). When I was in China, many professionals in my class welcomed opportunities to practice English. I suppose if responses come in native languages,I will be visiting freetranslation.com for help with the translations. I used this resource in my class this year with a student whose native language was Spanish.
Sincerely,
Kristi
Kristi,
ReplyDeleteIt is important to send out several requests to international colleagues just to be sure you are exhausting all means of gaining a colleague to interact and share our global perspective.
The Global Children’s' Fund is an invaluable organization.
Dr Longo
Kristi,
ReplyDeleteI am impressed with the amount of people you attempted to contact. Seems that you are very determined to get a hold of an early childhood professional outside the USA. I wish you luck in your attempts, and I look forward to read what you learn from them.
